Yonder Mountain String Band's Kinfolk Celebration Returns to Planet Bluegrass in September 2014
MAY 5, 2014 (LYONS, CO) -- A little more than a year after historic floods devastated Lyons and the Planet Bluegrass Ranch, Colorado festival producer Planet Bluegrass (producers of Telluride Bluegrass, RockyGrass, and the Rocky Mtn Folks Festival) will present a third major event on their festival calendar in Lyons, CO. The Kinfolk Celebration featuring Yonder Mountain String Band with special guests including John Bell (of Widespread Panic) will be held September 19-20. Tickets and camping go onsale on Thursday, May 8 at 9am MDT at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.
The 2-day Celebration will feature full shows each evening from Yonder Mountain String Band joined by special guests John Bell (Friday) and Jason Carter & Ronnie McCoury (Saturday). Music on the main stage will begin each afternoon with some of Yonder's favorite bands including The Travelin' McCourys, The Milk Carton Kids, Head for the Hills, and The Haunted Windchimes.
The Kinfolk Celebration will welcome 4,000 music fans to the 15-acre Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons on the final weekend before the Autumnal Equinox. Camping will be available onsite at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch and under the cliffs in Meadow Park (5 minute walk from Planet Bluegrass). On Thursday evening (September 18), Adam Aijala & Ben Kaufmann of Yonder Mountain String Band will perform a special Mabon concert in the intimate Wildflower Pavilion, exclusively for Kinfolk with camping passes for the on-site campground.
ABOUT PLANET BLUEGRASS: The Kinfolk Celebration arrives a little more than a year after historic 500-year floods devastated the town of Lyons and the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Planet Bluegrass estimates the flood recovery will cost more than $1 million, as crews prepare for a full summer season of festivals, including the sold-out RockyGrass festival in July. Last December, Yonder Mountain String Band donated $60K from a Planet Bluegrass benefit concert to pay for the 7 acres of sod which now cover the festival grounds. ABOUT YONDER MTN STRING BAND: The Colorado-based progressive acoustic band Yonder Mountain String Band performed on the RockyGrass main stage at Planet Bluegrass within their first year as a band in 1999. The following year they began their run on the main stage of Telluride Bluegrass. Widely considered one of the most successful bluegrass bands of all-time, Yonder Mountain consistently fills major venues across the country, including Red Rocks Amphitheater. The Kinfolk Celebration will be the band's only Colorado show of the summer season, besides their sets at the sold-out Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June.
KINFOLK CELEBRATION HISTORY: Yonder Mountain String Band began their annual Kinfolk Celebration at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in 2002. Their 2003 Kinfolk Celebration performance at Planet Bluegrass is documented in the popular live double-CD Mountain Tracks 3. In the past decade, the band has moved the annual Kinfolk Celebration to different venues around the country. The 2014 Kinfolk Celebration will be just the 4th held in Lyons.
