NEW MUSIC VENUE OPENING IN LYONS
LYONS, COLORADO — Ten years after the collapse of the historic Wildflower Theater on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch, tickets for the inaugural season of the Wildflower Concert Series in the new Wildflower Pavilion – including Tim O’Brien, Drew Emmitt, and an Autumn celebration with Adam Aijala and Ben Kaufmann of Yonder Mountain String Band – are now on sale. General admission tickets ($15-25) to these first six shows, many of which feature late-night bonfires and pre-show dinners, are on-sale now at www.bluegrass.com or for more information call 303-823-0848.
Tickets for the gala opening night show with Tim O’Brien sold-out in less than 2 hours. Tickets remain for each of the remaining five shows in the series: Leftover Salmon founder Drew Emmitt (Sept. 13), show-stopping Americana rockers Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers (Sept. 27), emotional singer-songwriter Mindy Smith (Oct. 3), powerful bluegrass band Mountain Heart (Oct. 10), and the iconoclastic singer-songwriter Michelle Shocked (Oct. 20).
On September 22, Planet Bluegrass celebrates the official start of Autumn with a rare duo set from Adam Aijala and Ben Kaufmann of Yonder Mountain String Band at 8pm. Gates will open for this “magical Mabon celebration” at 2pm, with acoustic jam circles (Celtic, old-time, bluegrass) throughout the grounds, food and hearty beverages, and camping. This intimate day of revelry replaces the larger Festival of the Mabon which has been held at Planet Bluegrass since 2001.
These intimate shows mark the debut of the new Wildflower Pavilion on Planet Bluegrass – a beautiful 4800 square-foot year-round venue nestled in the trees along the St. Vrain River. Final construction of the new wood and steel building, which began in March 2007, was completed just days before the sold-out RockyGrass festival in July. In its first month of operation the venue hosted performances from Nickel Creek, Del McCoury Band, and Peter Himmelman. RockyGrass Academy director Steve Szymanski referred to the venue as “Colorado’s new cathedral of bluegrass.”
The building features custom-welded bow-string trusses to provide a dramatic vaulted roof line and clear sightlines to the large raised stage. Windows behind and above the stage look out onto the St. Vrain River and the cliffs above it. Pews from the original historic Wildflower Theatre have been hand-restored and placed along the walls as a connection to the original venue on the Ranch.
All shows will be general admission and free parking will be available on-site at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Beer, wine, and other beverages will be sold.
