As the younger generation of Folks festivarians continues to expand, we’ve grown our kids area to include a variety of fun, planet-minded activities throughout the day, including slacklining, nature studies, crafts, face painting, and much more. As with all Planet Bluegrass festivals, kids 12 and under are free - quite the deal, since kids might have the best time of anyone at the festival...
Colorado Mountain Club
Visit the Colorado Mountain Club’s booth by the creek every hour for youth-oriented demonstrations on slack lining, stream ecology, lightning safety, and knot tying. Try out our slack line, hula hoops, and balance activities. Learn about the macro invertebrates that make their home in the St. Vrain River. Practice tying knots and make a bracelet to keep! Visit the CMC booth for each day’s schedule of activities.
Serving the community since 1912, the Colorado Mountain Club’s programs revolve around education, environmental conservation, and responsible recreation. The CMC’s Youth Education Program (YEP!) promotes active, healthy lifestyle choices for youth and encourages participation in outdoor activities. www.cmc.org
Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center
Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center will be offering fun activities all weekend for the children at Folks Fest!
At 11am on Saturday in the Wildflower Pavilion Emmy-winning songwriter, David Williams, whose bluesy, swinging, infectious songs about animals are played weekly over PBS's "Big Green Rabbit," will be performing songs about everything from Toucans – to the Umbrella Bird – to the Preying Mantis – along with songs he wrote for the Wild Bear Science Center. Not the typical sappy kids songs, these songs will make you want to hop, jump, and growl, and they're full of scientific facts!
Located in the mountains of Nederland, CO, Wild Bear is known for its creative exploration of the natural world, with award winning nature workshops for children, families and adults. The 10th annual Enchanted Forest, held this October 2, is a popular family event where families go on a tour of the forest and meet the animals of Mud Lake. www.wildbear.org
A Folks Fest Family Album

Be sure to bring them along - they'll be talking about it all year long...
