It's the "grab your calendar" edition of your trusty ol' Notes from the Planet!
The autumn winds may have already swept away the aspen leaves and teased us with high country snows, but it's time to dream a tiny bit about summer 2017. Over the course of the next 5 weeks, all our 2017 Planet Bluegrass tickets will be going on sale.
We're again selling our most in-demand tickets via online lotteries, two of which opened earlier this week:
• Town Park & Warner Field
camping at Telluride Bluegrass: Online lottery open now thru Wednesday, November 9
• RockyGrass Academy
registration: Online lottery open now thru Wednesday, November 9
• RockyGrass On-Site Camping
: Online lottery open November 16-27
Then the rest of our 2017 tickets go on sale in December at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. (Please note these dates are a couple days later than last year.)
• Folks Festival & The Song School: Monday, December 5
Please share these important dates with your Festivarian family. We don't want anyone to miss out on another magical summer of Festivation!
• RockyGrass: Tuesday, December 6
• Telluride Bluegrass: Thursday, December 8
We're excited to begin announcing instructors for the 2017 RockyGrass Academy (July 23-27). This year's bands-in-residence include: the Kruger Brothers, 2-time IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, and the Grammy-nominated duo of Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley.
We're also thrilled to welcome Peter Rowan for a special week-long songwriting course, and members of Hot Rize (Pete "Dr. Banjo" Wernick) and Della Mae (Courtney Hartman & Kimber Ludiker) as well as innovative mandolinist Radim Zenkl and dobro player Billy Cardine.
Watch for more additions to the Academy instructor page in the coming days -- as we near the end of the Academy registration lottery next Wednesday, November 9.
Beyond the instrument classes (and songwriting and vocals), we're proud to once again offer the instrument building experience. In this unique Academy course, students build a mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, or guitar during Academy week -- and christen them in the river during the Academy graduation.
Camp along the St. Vrain River and spend your days in instrument classes, instructor-led jam circles, band sessions, and electives covering topics like vocal harmony, practice techniques, improvisation, accompaniment, and music history. Evenings include BBQs, a band scramble, and late-night jams for all ages and abilities.
Registration is open now thru Wednesday, November 9 via the online lottery. Don't forget! Last year's entire Academy sold-out via the lottery.
After 2 sold-out shows in the fall Wildflower Concert Series, we conclude our 2016 season next Friday, November 11 with the otherworldly indie-folk gypsy 'grass of Lyons' own Taarka and 2014 RockyGrass band contest winners Caribou Mountain Collective.
We'll open the Wildflower bar (beer, wine, hot drinks) and light the bonfire at 7pm. Music starts at 8pm. As always, parking is free and convenient right on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch.
Tickets are still available for this special season finale at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.
We look forward to seeing you this Friday in Lyons. Hope you're having a glorious Autumn!

P.S. In case you somehow skipped the top of this email, the Telluride Town Park & Warner Field lottery is now open thru next Wednesday, November 9. If you're a Telluride Festivarian you'll know what do....
