It happens every year, but somehow it arrives with an air of surprise. After months of hibernation, we expect Spring to move along at the same molasses-like pace as Winter. One day the promise of a single crocus captivates us, then suddenly the entire world is awash with life: serenading birds, budding trees, blooming flowers... Telluride and RockyGrass tickets in the Returned Ticket Resale (yep, it's true!).
And, of course, a shrinking number of X's to mark off the calendar until festival season!
A few weeks ago we shared the first half of the lineup for the 26th Annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (August 19-21). With artists including The Decemberists, Lucinda Williams, Passenger, Kathy Mattea, and many more, Folks Fest promises to be a magical weekend of songs, stories and summertime along the St. Vrain River in Lyons.
Since single-day Folks Fest tickets went on sale in December (months earlier than past years), we wanted to begin sharing the performance days for this year's artists as they solidify. So... we can now tell you: The Decemberists and Dougie MacLean will be playing the festival on Sunday (Aug. 21); Lucinda Williams and Passenger will be performing on Friday (Aug. 19); and Darrell Scott will command the Folks stage on Saturday (Aug. 20).
We'll be announcing nearly a dozen more Folks artists over the next few months, including several more headliners. Watch our Facebook for #FolksFriday, where we'll be posting these new artist additions as soon as they officially confirm, as well as performance days for our initial lineup and more fun Folks teasers.
3-day passes, camping (including on-site, River Bend, and Meadow Park), and single-day tickets are available right now at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.
Two weeks ago we welcomed Festivarians back to the Ranch in Lyons for the opening of the Spring Wildflower Concert Series with Wood & Wire and Taarka. To commemorate the occasion, we even streamed a behind-the-scenes video tour to our Facebook followers.
These cozy indoor concerts continue every Friday evening in April. This Friday night (April 8) we welcome back Grammy-nominated Telluride and RockyGrass faves Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen with special guests Spring Fever Bluegrass Band (an exciting new quintet fronted by KC Groves and Greg Blake).
Next Friday (April 15), fiery young flatpicker Billy Strings wows the Wildflower crowd along with the exquisite Colorado quintet Finnders & Youngberg.
In the second half of April we revel in songs and sweet harmonies with The Stray Birds, Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys, and a special album release show for SHEL, where the first 100 orders receive a copy of their new CD.
Tickets are still available at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. The Pavilion doors and Wildflower bar (New Belgium beer, wine, and hot drinks) open at 7pm; music starts at 8pm. Stay in the loop about upcoming Wildflower Concerts by signing-up for our Wildflower email list.
When the devastating 2013 flood struck our hometown of Lyons, the CAN'd Aid Foundation provided volumes of assistance to locals. Now, it's time to refill the tank so they can continue to affect change where it's needed. How can you help? CAN'd Aid has teamed up with the Steep Canyon Rangers to create a one-of-a-kind Colorado bluegrass experience. Go fly-fishing with Woody Platt, take a private fiddle lesson with Nicky Sanders, enjoy a private bonfire pickin' sesh with the band, and more! 100% of all proceeds will benefit CAN'd Aid's do-goodery efforts. Get your bids in now in the online auction.
As we mentioned at the top, we've been able to release a bunch of Telluride Bluegrass and RockyGrass tickets in the Returned Ticket Resale section of shop.bluegrass.com -- including 4-day passes and Friday/Saturday single-day tickets for Telluride. Spread the good word to your Festivarian family in need. And get 'em while you can!
Finally, we'll be announcing details about the NightGrass shows in Telluride in our next email, later this month. Watch your inbox (and Facebook feed) for the concert schedule and the online lottery for all NightGrass tickets. Happy Spring!
