After months of relentless summer heat and animated throngs of merrymaking Festivarians, it feels a little strange here on Planet Bluegrass now that the weather is cooler and the grounds are quieter. We find ourselves in a period of reflection: lost in fresh memories of the festivals we shared with you last summer, and dreaming up ways to make the 2016 festival season the best one yet. It’s been a couple of months since our last newsletter, so we thought it was high time to let you know what we’ve been up to...
Some other dates you may want to make a note of, if they're part of your festival traditions:
The first order of business: a warm, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who attended one of our events this summer -- you are the reason we work tirelessly year-round! From the casual fan to the inspiring musicians to the volunteer pouring your beer, we are all Festivarians -- a single community coming together for a few special weekends a year to share in breathtaking scenery, once-in-a-lifetime musical performances, and just plain ol' good times.
Just a few weeks ago, we made the trek to Raleigh, NC for the International Bluegrass Music Awards, and we are honored and humbled to bring home the trophy for "Bluegrass Event of the Year: 42nd Annual RockyGrass Festival." Among the many recipients, we'd like to especially congratulate our friends in the Earls of Leicester on their numerous awards (both individually and as a group) -- we just about skinned our palms clapping for those guys!
If you're anything like us, you're already dreaming of next summer's festivals tucked away in the Rocky Mountains…join us on the following dates:
If you were one of the lucky few to join us in the Wildflower Pavilion for our fall concert series, you already know how cozy and magical the intimate setting is. We'll announce the dates and artists for our spring concert series early this winter -- keep your eyes peeled!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Festivarian surveys this summer -- your feedback is absolutely invaluable to us, and every word you write informs our decisions going forward. Congrats to these lucky Festivarians who won our drawing for free 2016 festival passes: Ken Gentry (Telluride Bluegrass tickets); Dick Hendrix (RockyGrass tickets); and Ari Margolis (Folks Fest tickets).
Finally, our friends at the Boulder Theater have given us a pair of tickets to give away to Festivarians for this Wednesday's Patty Griffin show with special guests Darlingside (October 28). Head on over to our Facebook page to enter to win. We'll choose the lucky Festivarian winner on Tuesday afternoon.
