No Depression called it: "the perfect festival." From virtuosic legends and inspiring new talents to bluegrass zombies and trailblazing horses, last weekend's 43rd Annual RockyGrass was an unforgettable 3 days in Lyons.
Our little trad bluegrass festival along the St. Vrain River is only possible thanks to the many artists, volunteers, staff, and Festivarians who return year after year to create RockyGrass magic. To all of you, we offer our heartfelt thanks. What a weekend it was...
If you missed out on the sold-out 43rd Annual RockyGrass (July 24-26), read about it in Denver Post's Reverb and No Depression. We'll continue to post more photos on the Planet Bluegrass Facebook page in the coming days.
We'd love to hear about your RockyGrass experience -- from the campgrounds to the tarp line to the vendors to the main stage. Complete our online Festivarian survey and you'll be entered to win a pair of 3-day passes to next year's Festival.
We're thrilled to announce that Rapidgrass are the first band confirmed for the 2016 RockyGrass lineup, after beating an impressive collection of bands in the RockyGrass band contest. This year's band contest finalists were so impressive our judges needed an additional tie-breaker song to make their final decision!
Congratulations as well to the winners in each of the 5 instrument contests. Overall this was the strongest showing in all the RockyGrass music contests in recent memory.
After the campground load-out on Monday morning, Planet Bluegrass and Leave No Trace chose the grand prize winner of the 2015 Campsite Challenge: "Hog Heaven" of Frisco, CO. In recognition of their creative, sustainable campsite, they're receiving a pair of 3-day passes and onsite camping for the 44th RockyGrass.
Mark your calendars now for next year's Festival: July 29-31, 2016. Watch Bluegrass.com in October for details about the online lotteries for RockyGrass Academy and RockyGrass on-site camping. All other RockyGrass tickets will go onsale in early December.
As the ancient bluegrass tones quiet and the river slows to its late-summer flow, we're making our final preparations for the historic 25th Annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (August 14-16) on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons.
Single-day tickets for Friday and Sunday, as well as on-site camping (which includes a 3-day pass) are still available for our "summit on the song" featuring Gillian Welch, Sufjan Stevens, Richard Thompson, Mary Chapin Carpenter & Shawn Colvin, The Wood Brothers, Kasey Chambers, Shane Koyczan, and many more.
Congratulations to Saturday Folks closer Jason Isbell, whose new album Something More Than Free was #1 on Billboard's country, rock, and folk charts last week, leading Todd Snider to declare "The war is over… Jason Isbell saved country music."
We open the Folks Festival on Friday (August 14) with 10 of our favorite young songwriters in the Songwriter Showcase. Carefully selected from more than 450 submissions, these 10 finalists each perform 2 songs on the main stage as they vie for a spot on the 2016 lineup. Stream songs from each of these 10 songwriters now on SoundCloud. They open a Folks Friday that includes Sufjan Stevens, Kasey Chambers, Shane Koyczan & the Short Story Long, the legendary Peter Yarrow, and more.
Tickets for Sunday (including Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Richard Thompson, The Wood Brothers, The Waifs, and more) will be the next to go. Reach out to your Festivarian family and make your plans now to join us for the final festival of the year on Planet Bluegrass in Lyons.
Tickets and camping are available at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422 (with no service fees of course). We can't wait to see you in Lyons in just 2 weeks!
