It's never been more vibrantly green here in August. With sunflowers stretching toward the sky, unseen hues of wildflowers blooming anew every day, and songwriters finding their muse under every tree, the Planet Bluegrass Ranch feels positively alive.
And after several weeks of refreshing cool wetness, this weekend welcomes a confluence of cleansing sunshine, summer warmth, and musical inspiration.
We invite you to join us in one final deep musical breath to close our 2013 festival season...
We're thrilled to welcome several beloved legends to this weekend's 23rd Annual Rocky Mtn Folks Festival (August 16-18). From the iconic American songbook of John Prine (Sunday night), the otherworldly Celtic-fusion of Loreena McKennitt (Friday night), to the purposeful grooves of Australian superstar John Butler Trio (Saturday night).
We'll share the magical twilight sets with 3 brilliant troubadours: the charismatic leader of the literary indie-folkers The Decemberists Colin Meloy (Sunday), founder of '80s hitmakers Men At Work (and a brilliant 20+ year solo career) Colin Hay (Friday), and the powerful songs and inimitable voice of Patty Griffin (Saturday).
But beyond our evening sets, we've never had a Folks lineup so aglow with exciting new talents: the "screaming eagle of soul" Charles Bradley (watch this film about his life), the stylish indie-pop of Lucius (watch them live at NPR), the passionate spoken word-meets-beautiful music of Shane Koyczan & the Short Story Long (watch his deeply moving TED talk), the 4-part female harmonies and percussion of Chic Gamine (here's a luscious gospel tune), stunning Northern Ireland singer-songwriter Foy Vance, and 9 more absolutely un-missable sets.
Get yourself caught up on this year's artists with this Youtube playlist featuring songs from all 20 of this year's main stage performers, or preview our printed festival program (which we'll be handing-out to all ticketholders this weekend).
Friday and Sunday single-day tickets are still available, as well as camping at Meadow Park or in the onsite campground (which includes a 3-day pass). As always, we charge no service fees to purchase tickets right now at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. Or we expect to have some tickets available in-person at the box office this weekend.
Check out the schedule of performances on the main stage and in the intimate Wildflower Pavilion. Listen to songs from all 10 of the finalists in the Songwriter Showcase, our internationally-renowned songwriting contest which opens the Festival on Friday morning.
Though the Wildflower Pavilion will be home to intimate performances during The Song School and Folks Festival, beginning in September our "cathedral of bluegrass" will host a series of concerts throughout the Fall and Spring.
The first 4 shows announced for the Autumn 2013 schedule include: an evening of high-energy bluegrass featuring Town Mountain and MilkDrive (Sept 13), our 7th Annual Mabon Celebration featuring Adam Aijala & Ben Kaufmann of Yonder Mountain String Band (Sept 21), a special evening with the endlessly entertaining Todd Snider (Oct 18), and the legendary songwriter Jesse Winchester (Nov 1).
Tickets for all shows (as well as camping for the Mabon Celebration) are available now at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the sold-out 41st Annual RockyGrass Festival. We'd love to hear about your Festival experience in our online survey. Share your thoughts and you'll be entered in a drawing to win a pair of tix to the 42nd RockyGrass (July 25-27, 2014).
Be sure to check out the KGNU broadcast archive for highlights from many of this year's Festival sets, including Del McCoury Band, Tim O'Brien, Carolina Chocolate Drops, and much more. Congratulations to the winners of the instrument contests as well as the band contest winners The Railsplitters.
Together with our friends at Leave No Trace, we congratulate the winners of the 6th Annual Campsite Challenge, Camp Coleman Square. If you're camping at this weekend's Folks Festival, be sure to stop by the Leave No Trace booth inside the Festival to enter your campsite.
We hope to see you this weekend for this last glorious festival weekend of Summer 2013...
