A day at Telluride Bluegrass doesn't end with the last soaring solo on the main stage. When the outdoor music stops and the temperatures drop, picks and bows move indoors to the famed venues of Telluride and Mountain Village.
Put away the tarps and poser pit: these intimate NightGrass shows thrive on the intimate communal energy of artists and festivarians just a few feet apart. Nightgrass stages become as crowded as the floor, with special guests waiting around every microphone (or even next to you in the crowd). These NightGrass shows compress late-night acoustic party energy into small spaces, primed for unforgettable memories...
The 2012 NightGrass series begins on Wednesday with a ride up the gondola for Yonder Mountain String Band's 11th Annual Bluegrass Kickoff Party. Thereafter each festival late-night we invite main stage performers, new collaborations, and outside artists into 3 Telluride venues – the historic Sheridan Opera House, underground at the legendary Fly Me to the Moon Saloon, and the modern acoustics of the Palm Theatre on the west edge of town.

Elephant Revival's Colorado trance-folk makes its much anticipated Telluride Bluegrass debut. The "Shaman of Telluride" Peter Rowan joins bluegrass all-stars the Travelin' McCourys. Dan Mangan shows why he earned 2 Juno Awards last weekend. Punky foot-stompin' trio The Devil Makes Three create dancin' yellin' mayhem. From jamgrass to singer-songwriters, legends to fresh sounds, these late night sets span the breadth of Telluride Bluegrass.
Once again this year we'll be using an online lottery to sell tickets for the two most intimate venues – Sheridan and Fly Me to the Moon. The lottery for these 7 shows will be open for 48 hours: Tuesday, April 10 thru Wednesday, April 11.
All other NightGrass tickets go onsale the following Tuesday, April 17, online-only at shop.bluegrass.com. As a reminder: NightGrass tickets are completely separate from festival passes; and NightGrass tickets are non-refundable.
If your Telluride late-nights include singing a few tunes of your own, we'd love to hear you. Less than a week remains to submit up to 2 original songs for the Telluride Troubadour songwriting contest. Entries are due Friday, April 13.
If you purchased festival tickets but haven't decided on your camping/lodging, we highly recommend you finalize those plans right away. Camping passes remain for just 2 campgrounds – Lawson Hill and Mary E / Ilium. Or confirm your cozy indoor lodging with one of our festival partners in Telluride or Mountain Village.
As one of the founder's of the "women's music" movement, Holly Near's integration of music and social justice has earned her recognition as one of Ms. Magazine's Women of the Year and a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. We're thrilled to welcome Holly to Lyons this August for the 22nd Annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (Aug 17-19).
She joins other recent Folks Fest additions: expat New Yorker now living in Argentina Richard Shindell, the shining folk-pop harmonies of Girlyman, and Grammy-nominated Nashville singer-songwriter Gretchen Peters.
In addition to the festival main stage, these 4 artists (and many more) will be teaching at The Song School the preceding week. If you missed out on making your Song School reservation (spaces sold-out in late January), sign-up to be notified if any spaces become available.
Tickets and camping for the Folks Festival are still available at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. A word of warning: 3-day passes could be gone before May.
We're getting very close to finalizing the single-day lineup. Watch for some major announcements in a couple weeks along with the release of single-day tickets.
