[ View this email as a web page: http://www.bluegrass.com/emails/2011/PBEmail-2011-03-03.html ] =================================================================== All winter long we are taunted by the sound of the St. Vrain River: snowmelt meandering down from the Continental Divide past the cliffs and Cottonwoods that line Planet Bluegrass. Today it is but a chilly trickle of its late-July self. But even today its sound is inescapable everywhere in Lyons; even today its sound carries a faint harmonic of a mandolin chop, a banjo roll, a high lonesome voice. Today's water will flow on by, forever missing the bluegrass ecstasy of Del McCoury, Steve Martin, David Grisman, Hot Rize, Sam Bush. May you not meet the same fate — single-day RockyGrass tickets are available now... ------------------------------------ *** ROCKYGRASS *** ------------------------------------ With the final additions of hot bluegrass trio Brother Mule, the fiery flatpicking of Bryan Sutton & the String Set, a stirring gospel set from Anne & Pete Sibley, and the virtuosic mandolin duets of Mike Marshall & Caterina Lichtenberg, the single-day lineup for the 39th Annual RockyGrass (July 29-31) is now complete. These final artists join a soul- and star-filled lineup boasting many of the bluegrass legends of today and tomorrow... Friday, July 29 * Del McCoury Band * David Grisman Bluegrass Experience * * Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band * Shawn Camp Band * * Bryan Sutton & The String Set * Darol Anger's Republic of Strings * * Brother Mule * Henhouse Prowlers Saturday, July 30 * Hot Rize * Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers * * Psychograss * Sarah Jarosz * Kruger Brothers * * Mike Marshall & Caterina Lichtenberg * Della Mae Sunday, July 31 * Sam Bush Bluegrass Band * Larry Sparks & The Lonesome Ramblers * * O'Brien Party of 7 * Open Road (special reunion) * * Joy Kills Sorrow * MilkDrive * Anne & Pete Sibley For three hallowed days, we shine a spotlight on the roots and branches of traditional bluegrass — high and lonesome, hard and driving, gorgeous and supremely soulful. Festivarians return year after year for the music on the main stage, along with the music everywhere else — band and instrument contests, workshops in the Wildflower Pavilion, musicians of all levels behind every tree and tent sharing in the sound and spirit of bluegrass music. Widely regarded as one of the world's greatest pickin' scenes, RockyGrass welcomes every Festivarian into the jam circle - whether the jam is tubing the St. Vrain with the kids, gathering at the camp or tarp for dinner, or trading mandolin breaks into the wee hours. The sense of community, camaraderie, and collaboration defines RockyGrass and draws generations of Festivarians back to Lyons every July. If your summer only allows for a day or two at RockyGrass, now's your chance to purchase single-day tickets ($50). Tickets and camping (under the cliffs at Meadow Park or in the panoramic valley of Bohn Park) are available now at http://shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. So you're not caught off-guard: last year's Saturday single-day tickets were gone in less than a month. Once you've secured your tickets, pass along a friendly reminder to your Festivarian family by RSVP'ing on Facebook - they'll raise a vintage beer cup in your honor come July. Then sit back and begin to explore this year's lineup: download a free tune from Steve Martin's upcoming Rare Bird CD, watch recent performances from Larry Sparks and Joy Kills Sorrow, and read about the upcoming O'Brien Party of 7 recording. It's going to be another unforgettable RockyGrass. ------------------ *** OTHER NEWS *** ------------------ The 2011 Planet Bluegrass season officially begins in just 9 days with the opening night of the Spring Wildflower Concert Series on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons.
