Tick tock, tick tock... -------------------------- *** ROCKYGRASS ACADEMY *** -------------------------- The week leading up to the RockyGrass Festival, several dozen of the festival's main stage performers arrive early to pass-on the skills, stories, and traditions of bluegrass music to students in the RockyGrass Academy (July 24-28). This is a week of inspiration, community, camping along the St. Vrain River, and pickin'. Lots and lots of pickin' - all day and most of the night. Students are immersed in bluegrass music – with classes on their chosen instrument, song circles, jam coaching, one-on-one sessions, band workshops, and daily electives covering everything from harmony singing and music theory to good practice habits and improvisation. For bluegrass musicians this is the greatest week of the year anywhere – hands-down. In addition to instrument instruction, we'll once again be offering classes in vocals and songwriting, as well as the instrument building experience and the Kids Camp (for children of Academy attendees, ages 7-14). We're thrilled to announce this year's stellar Academy faculty: * Guitar: Bryan Sutton, David Grier, Uwe Kruger, Sandy Munro * Mandolin: Mike Marshall, Christopher Henry, Ben Winship * Banjo: Tony Trischka, Jens Kruger, Charlie Cushman * Fiddle: Darol Anger, Brian Wicklund, TBA * Bass: Mike Bub, Todd Phillips, Joel Landsberg * Dobro: Sally Van Meter * Vocals: Peter Rowan * Songwriting: TBA * Bands-in-Residence: Psychograss, Kruger Brothers, Brother Mule * Kids Camp: Kate Hamre, KC Groves, Eric Thorin, Ryan Drickey, Justin Hoffenberg * Lutherie: Michael Hornick, Dan Roberts, Bobby Wintringham, Gary Lundy, Chuck Midgley, Marcus Engstrom Due to overwhelming demand, Academy registration is once again taking place using an online lottery. Help out your pickin' buddies by forwarding this email their way. You'll be their musical hero for life. ------------------------------------ *** TELLURIDE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL *** ------------------------------------ First the facts: Town Park is just one of several different campgrounds at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. So if you're not lucky enough to win the Town Park lottery, you'll have a choice of 4 other campgrounds (when all other Telluride Bluegrass tickets go on-sale on December 8) – from nearby Warner Field, to family-friendly Telluride High School, to the west end of the Valley Floor at Lawson, to the sounds of the river at Mary E. / Ilium. But for many, the Town Park campground is the quintessential festivarian experience. Located next to the festival grounds, Town Park is a beautiful forested campground with small hills and bowls, a river running through it, and its own waterfall. For Festivarian Nation, this is hallowed ground, hosting the festival's longest-running traditional camps. Opening the Saturday before the festival, the Town Park experience includes numerous daily activities organized by festivarians, and, of course, the legendary Town Park jams. To submit your entry for Town Park camping passes, visit http://www.bluegrass.com anytime before Wednesday, November 17 at 11:59pm MST. The entire process should take less than 5 minutes. ------------------ *** OTHER NEWS *** ------------------ Mark your calendar for our final 2011 ticket lottery: - on-site camping for RockyGrass will be sold via an online lottery from November 22 thru December 5. Then all other 2011 tickets – including Folks Festival and The Song School – go on-sale at 9am MST on Wednesday, December 8. We're hard at work confirming artists for all our 2011 festivals.
