[ View this email as a web page: http://www.bluegrass.com/emails/2010/PBEmail-2010-05-19.html ] =================================================================== After our energetic bluegrass gatherings of magic and mountains, virtuosity and valor in Telluride and Lyons, we reserve one final weekend to celebrate songs, stories, and summer along the St. Vrain. We reserve this final festival weekend in August for shared voices, a shared dance, and a final shared weekend of festivarian camaraderie. And now, with the announcement of the single-day lineup for this historic 20th annual festival, we give our imagination a clearer peek into the days and nights of the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival: the Friday evening twilight on David Wilcox and Ani DiFranco; the Saturday late-night jubilation of The Swell Season; the epic festival closing set from John Prine. Twenty years of voices and inspiration condensed into three days of song. --------------------------- *** 20th Folks Festival *** --------------------------- The last of our 2010 single-day summer lineups is now official. From Greg Brown and Marc Cohn, to The Waifs and Richard Thompson this year's carefully curated "Summit on the Song" brings together the musicians who have defined the last 20 years of August on Planet Bluegrass. But it also introduces the artists who will lead us into the next 20 years - The Swell Season, Jenny Lewis, Gregory Alan Isakov. Here's a glimpse at this year's very international - encompassing England, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the breadth of America from Buffalo to Los Angeles - single-day lineup: Friday, August 13 * Ani DiFranco * David Wilcox * Tift Merritt * Darrell Scott * Jonatha Brooke * Liz Longley * Folks Showcase Saturday, August 14 * The Swell Season * Greg Brown * Jenny Lewis * Marc Cohn * Dala * Gregory Alan Isakov Sunday, August 15 * John Prine * The Waifs * Richard Thompson * Michelle Shocked * Joe Craven * Joy Kills Sorrow Check out the complete single-day lineup, reach out to your folks family, then make your plans to join us August 13-15 at the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons. 3-day passes and camping (including the on-site campground and nearby Meadow Park) are now available. Introduce a new festivarian to Folks Fest, with single-day tickets - these are now available as well. As always, no handling fees at http://shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422 and tickets are fully refundable if returned by July 16. If there's a hint of hesitation about the magic of Folks Fest, stop reading right now and grab this free download of Folks Fest favorite Darrell Scott's anthemic "Colorado." http://www.darrellscott.com/colorado Inspired in part by his time in Lyons, "Colorado I need healing" sums up the power and spirit of our late summer gathering along the St. Vrain. --------------------------- *** Telluride Bluegrass *** --------------------------- This week marks exactly one month until the grand gathering of festivarian nation in Telluride. Whether this is your first Telluride Bluegrass or your twentieth, it's time to make your commitment to be serenaded under the San Juan Mountains by the world's most virtuosic musicians in June. Tickets, camping, and lodging are still available to join Alison Krauss, Lyle Lovett, Sam Bush, Yonder Mountain String Band, Edward Sharpe, Brandi Carlile, and many others June 17-20. With a heart rivaling the strength of his voice, longtime Telluride veteran John Cowan has stepped-in to help his friends The Doobie Brothers as their bassist recovers from recent health problems. Sadly, this national tour will prevent John and his band from joining us in Telluride this year. To help us fill the mountain air with songs, voices, and grooves we have invited the new super-group 18 South to join the 37th annual Telluride lineup. No strangers to the Telluride stage as members of Sam Bush Band, Jerry Douglas Band, Del McCoury Band, Emmylou Harris, etc., these six Nashville musicians share an obvious joy in playing music together. (Give their song "Telluride" a spin) You may have noticed one additional change to the single-day lineup: due to scheduling issues Dave Rawlings Machine and Punch Brothers switched festival days (Thurs/Sunday). If you purchased single-day tickets to see one of these artists, contact us by May 21 to arrange for a special ticket swap. Congratulations to the Telluride Troubadour finalists who were chosen from over 500 songwriting entries from around the world. These 10 songwriters will be performing in Elks Park, as well as special Troubadour 'Tweeners on the main stage - and, of course, a special Saturday set from the Troubadour winner playing their new Shanti custom guitar. Tickets are still available to many of the indoor NightGrass concerts - including Dierks Bentley & the Travelin' McCourys, Punch Brothers, Mumford & Sons, and Josh Ritter. But don't wait too long, we've already sold-out of 3 shows, including the Yonder Mountain String Band kick-off show on Wednesday night. Get your tickets and camping now at http://shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. ------------------ *** RockyGrass *** ------------------ We don't mean to worry you, but Saturday tickets for RockyGrass are already sold-out – and Sunday tickets are not far behind. If you're a fan of traditional bluegrass, RockyGrass is July's most important weekend – Doc Watson, Patty Loveless, Tony Rice, Tim O'Brien, Seldom Scene, Bobby Osborne, and many more pickin' under the Cottonwoods along the St. Vrain River. If you're a bluegrass picker, put this email aside and scurry your mouse over to the "Returned Ticket Resale" at http://shop.bluegrass.com. There you'll find a limited number of extra spaces in the RockyGrass Academy - including dobro, bass, banjo, instrument building, and dance. This is a rare chance to take part in the finest week of bluegrass pickin' anywhere - an Academy that usually sells out via lottery in November. It's not too late to make your plans for any of our summer festivals. Yellow Scene just named the Planet Bluegrass Ranch the "Best Summer Music Venue" in their Best of the West, while Boulder Weekly again named Telluride Bluegrass their "Best Music Festival." But the river is rising and it won't be long 'til the sound of bagpipes announce the morning tarp run. Summer is a magical time in Colorado. We can't wait to share it with you.
