Git along lil' mandolins... we're drivin' the festivarian trail to the summer pastures in Telluride..." And with less than 3 months til the 1st running of the tarps on June 17, it's time to sound a call a little closer to home: Git along festivarian, corral your extended festivarian family, grab your tickets, reserve your lodging or camping, and begin to draw yourself into the official 37th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival artwork. Your perfect tarp space lies there in the distance, across the San Miguel River, amidst thousands of smiling festivarians, in the acoustically perfect spot to take in the musical magic that is Telluride Bluegrass... --------------------------- *** Telluride Bluegrass *** --------------------------- Two weeks ago we laid out the individual artists that will join together to create this year's Telluride Bluegrass. Today we begin stitching them together into the story of the 37th with the announcement of the complete single-day lineups. Over the course of four inspiring days, our musical journey takes us from Sarah Jarosz to the spectacular Telluride House Band. Alpenglow and twilight will tint the stage for Alison Krauss, Lyle Lovett, and Sam Bush. We'll find spirit in the Drepung Monks' Sunday morning set; kick up afternoon dust during Yonder Mountain String Band, Josh Ritter, and Carolina Chocolate Drops; and watch the stars come into view during the Tim O'Brien Band, Leftover Salmon, and Edward Sharpe. With the announcement of these single-day lineups, single-day tickets are now on-sale. A single-day ticket for Saturday lets you experience two of the most groundbreaking trio sets of the year: the classical/Indian/Americana fusion of Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain & Edgar Meyer; and Jerry Douglas's remarkable new trio of Jerry Douglas (dobro), Viktor Krauss (bass), and Omar Hakim (the masterful drummer who has performed with the likes of Miles Davis, Weather Report, David Bowie, and Sting's Blue Turtles Band). A word of warning: a day at Telluride Bluegrass is just enough to cause you to spend the rest of the year dreaming about returning to the Festival for all 4 days. Order your tickets and camping now - http://shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. Lots of camping is still available in 3 very different campgrounds. Or if sleeping bags aren't your thing, check out our lodging page for great deals from our many trusted lodging partners in Telluride and nearby Mountain Village (a free gondola ride above town). Keep watching for details about the NightGrass series of late-night indoor concerts in the next couple weeks. With less than 90 days to go, it might be time to follow Planet Bluegrass on Facebook, get to know your future tarpmates in the Festivarian Forum, and begin spreading the festivipation by sharing a festival story with friends, helping out the Festivarian Street Team, or just stepping away from your computer for a momentary scream of "Festivaaaaaal." --------------------------------- *** Wildflower Concert Series *** --------------------------------- Chatham County Line just returned from Norway where they were nominees for Country Album of the Year at the Norwegian Grammies (Spelleman Awards). Rabid fans of the North Carolina acoustic quartet are everywhere: at their last SXSW performance members of R.E.M. were front-row, waiting around afterward for Chatham County Line to autograph their newly-purchased CDs. Next Saturday, March 27 we kick off the 2010 Wildflower Concert Series with the alt-bluegrass of Chatham County Line swaying and dodging around a single microphone for one of their first-ever (non-festival) concerts on the Front Range. We'll begin the evening with the virtuosic young stringband MilkDrive, featuring members of South Austin Jug Band and a former RockyGrass mandolin champion. Tickets ($15) are available now at http://shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. The intimate 300-seat Wildflower Pavilion is our acoustically-tuned "listening room" - enjoy the music, energy, and warmth indoors or hang with fellow festivarians right outside at the bonfire along the river. Plan to arrive early: the bonfire begins at 7pm and wine and New Belgium beer is available all evening at the Wildflower bar. The series continues with 3 more spring shows - including Flexigrass, Long Road Home, Head for the Hills, Town Mountain, and Anne & Pete Sibley. --------------------------- *** 20th Folks Festival *** --------------------------- Gregory Alan Isakov's presence on Planet Bluegrass has been building like the powerful dynamics in his music. He quietly and humbly won the Telluride Troubadour contest in 2007; he's been growing in energy and intensity with his own sold-out Wildflower Concert last fall; and now with 2 critically-acclaimed albums his music completely surrounds and engulfs us. We're thrilled to announce that this August, he'll be at the center of Planet Bluegrass as the latest addition to the 20th Folks Festival lineup. Gregory joins a 20th Anniversary lineup that includes Ani DiFranco, John Prine, The Swell Season (Academy Award winning singer-songwriters Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova from the film Once), Richard Thompson, Jenny Lewis, Marc Cohn, The Waifs, David Wilcox, Greg Brown, and many more - with several more still to be announced. Bring the family and celebrate one of the last weekend's of summer along the St. Vrain River with the stories and songs of the historic 20th Annual Folks Festival. Three-day passes and camping (on-site or under the cliffs at Meadow Park) are available now at 800-624-2422 or http://shop.bluegrass.com. Tickets are selling faster than ever before. ------------------ *** RockyGrass *** ------------------ From his formative years as one of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys to his musical innovations with Muleskinner, Old & In the Way, and his long-running solo career, Peter Rowan has remained one of the defining voices in bluegrass and newgrass music for over 5 decades. We are thrilled to welcome him back to RockyGrass with his Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band. For those lucky students in the sold-out RockyGrass Academy, Peter will be teaching the vocal class and his bandmate (and an inspiring musical soul in his own right) Jody Stecher will be teaching fiddle classes. The 38th Annual RockyGrass brings together many of the defining voices of bluegrass - from Doc Watson to Patty Loveless, Tony Rice to Sam Bush, Jesse McReynolds to Bobby Osborne, and so many more. RockyGrass is the great bluegrass jam on the St. Vrain - with unforgettable sets on the main stage, band and instrument contests, and legendary campground jams all over Lyons. Three-day passes and camping are available now - but they'll be gone by summertime. Get yours now at http://shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. As for all our festivals, kids 12 and under are free and we charge no service fees for any tickets. ------------------ *** Other News *** ------------------ The first day of spring (this Saturday, March 20) may not feel like spring outdoors here in Colorado, but it's a perfect day to spend indoors at the Colorado Mountain Club's MountainFest - at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden from 1-6pm. The free event features workshops on climbing 14ers, fly fishing, wildflower identification, photography, rock climbing, and much much more. Planet Bluegrass will be on-hand all day offering giveaways, including tickets to upcoming Wildflower Concerts. For more info visit http://www.CMC.org or call 303-279-3080. Finally, we'd love to see you this Saturday evening (March 20) in the Wildflower Pavilion for the "Pass the Hat for Haiti" benefit. This important evening will feature a silent auction, food and drink, and performances from 12 different Colorado musicians. We hope to see you there.
