Did that sticky note fall off your mandolin case? Did you forget why you set that tarp in front of your computer last weekend? Too busy watching SBTV (that's SB as in the King of Telluride) to notice that tomorrow is November 17?
We're here to whisper one little word in your ear: "lottery!!!!"
Tuesday night, November 17, at 11:59pm MST the first two online lotteries for the Planet Bluegrass 2010 season close. If you were hoping to camp in Town Park for the 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival (June 17-20) or attend the RockyGrass Academy (July 18-22) you only have a few more hours left to visit www.bluegrass.com.
But stress not, the lottery process takes less than 5 minutes. Once you've decided how many camping passes you'll need or what Academy class to register for just grab your credit card, fill out the secure online form (Town Park or Academy), and press submit. As David Grier described his guitar playing for us in the Wildflower Pavilion two weeks ago - "it's just that easy."
We're excited to announce the faculty for the 2010 Academy, including Wyatt Rice, Rickie Simpkins, Emory Lester, Bryn Davies, 2009 IBMA guitar player of the year Josh Williams, and bands-in-residence the Travelin' McCourys and the Infamous Stringdusters. Once again we'll be offering a clawhammer banjo class - this year led by bluegrass-clawhammer master Mark Johnson.
In addition to the instrument classes we're bringing back classes in traditional dance (taught by Eileen Carson Schatz of Footworks), songwriting (taught by Grammy-nominated Sarah Siskind), and bluegrass vocals.
Unique to RockyGrass Academy is the instrument building experience, where students build their own mandolins, mandolas, octave mandolins, or even parlour guitars under the guidance of world-renowned luthiers.
If your kids would like to join you in the Academy experience, Bearfoot will again be leading the Bluegrass Camp for Kids (ages 7-14).
Due to the huge demand for all classes, Academy registration is held using an online lottery open thru Tuesday, November 17 at bluegrass.com. If any classes remain unfilled after the lottery, they will be made available beginning December 9 along with the Song School and the rest of the 2010 festival tickets.
Scribble these final dates on your 2009 calendar: the online lottery for on-site camping at RockyGrass (July 23-25) will be open from November 23 thru December 6. Then three days later, all remaining 2010 tickets (including Warner Field camping for Telluride Bluegrass) go on sale both online - shop.bluegrass.com - or over the phone at 800-624-2422.
We're just a couple week away from some preliminary lineup announcements for the 2010 festivals. Share your thoughts with us in the Festivarian Forum or on Facebook.
Finally, a hearty thank you to everyone who joined us this fall for the Wildflower Concert Series in Lyons. From Edward Sharpe to Grier & Compton it was a magical autumn of music on Planet Bluegrass. Concerts in the Wildflower Pavilion start up again in March.
But right now, take 5 minutes to fill out your 2010 lottery form(s) and another minute to remind a few members of your festivarian family. Telluride is only 212 days away.
