With the addition of a couple simple lottery forms to our website, the quiet Autumn days on Planet Bluegrass are now officially over. It's time to start planning for the 2007 festival season!
Starting this year, we will be selling Telluride Town Park camping and vehicles, RockyGrass Academy, and RockyGrass on-site camping and vehicle passes using an online lottery system. This new random lottery replaces the stress and headaches of the big ticket sale day with its hours of redial and busy signals.
To enter each lottery visit bluegrass.com, mark your choices on a secure online lottery form, and provide us either a credit card number or send us a check. The day after each lottery closes, we will begin randomly choosing lottery entries and fulfilling each order while space is available. You will only be charged anything if we are able to fill your order. If you have friends without internet access, we're happy to fill out the lottery form for them over the phone - 303-823-0848 / 800-624-2422.
Read over the lottery rules, call your festivarian friends, make your summer plans, then enter the lottery at your leisure. Just be sure to complete the form by the specific lottery closing date:
All other tickets for the 2007 festival season go on-sale on Wednesday, December 6.
We've made a couple important changes for this year's Lyons festivals - RockyGrass (July 27-29), Folks Fest (August 17-19), and Festival of the Mabon (September 22).
In order to better protect the natural environment of the Planet Bluegrass Ranch and provide more room for all on-site campers, we will not be selling on-site RV passes for the Lyons festivals. In addition, we will be limiting the length of on-site vehicles to 18 feet.
To minimize the amount of paper mailings and lost tickets we are switching to an email/barcode ticket system for the Lyons festivals. Instead of mailing you "an unmarked windowed envelope from Lyons, CO" we will email barcode tickets for all Lyons festivals. Don't worry, you can still elect to have your tickets held at will-call if you'd rather not have them emailed.
We're still busy confirming acts for all the 2007 festivals, but the Academy instructor lineup is almost complete. With bands-in-residence Nickel Creek, Del McCoury Band, Claire Lynch Band, and the Kruger Brothers, maybe this is the year you spend an entire week with the bluegrass greats in Lyons... (Learn more)
Congratulations to Mike Racette, Lori Krauth, Jelena Caplan, and Christy Baron. They were chosen at random from all the online festivarian survey responses to receive a pair of tickets to one of next year's festivals.
Finally, we enjoyed the music so much this summer on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons that we just couldn't let it end. So we've converted the Wildflower tent into the year-round Wildflower Theater. Starting in a couple weeks we'll have occasional evening concerts in our cozy heated space, beer and concessions, post-show bonfires and jams, and some of our favorite performers on the planet — starting November 5 with the great Darrell Scott and November 18 with the Wayword Sons. 2007 RockyGrass Academy
July 22-26, 2007
Everyone is resistant to change. We understand. So to thank you all for working with us on the new lottery-based registration system for this year's Academy, we've put together one of our most stellar list of instructors ever.
We start out with bands-in-residence: Nickel Creek, Del McCoury Band, Claire Lynch Band, and the Kruger Brothers. Then we fill things out with dobro masters Rob Ickes and Sally Van Meter, Kentucky Thunder fiddler Andy Leftwich, an intermediate/advanced clawhammer banjo class with Mark Schatz, Bearfoot Bluegrass leading an extended 4-day Kids Camp, and our instrument building classes. Yeah, we can't wait, either. View all the instructor bios here.
The lottery is now officially open. You can enter anytime between now and November 27 at 11:59pm MST. We'll notify everyone of their status by December 1, just in time to enter the RockyGrass On-Site camping lottery. Enter the online lottery at: http://www.bluegrass.com/rga/lottery.html

Darrell Scott w/ Anne & Pete Sibley
Wildflower Theater on Planet Bluegrass
"Colorado, I need healing." So sang Darrell Scott in his inspiring encore at last summer's RockyGrass. The set was filled with Darrell's classics ("It's a Great Day to Be Alive," "Long Time Gone", etc), but with that final stirring song the entire festival stopped what they were doing, looked at their neighbor, and with a knowing grin said to each other: "I love this guy."
The Dixie Chicks say "he is one of the great writers of our time." Sam Bush says "his playing is unreal." Anyone who has ever heard him sing knows how he has the power to warm the soul.
In the mid-1990's we hosted a vibrant concert series in the original Wildflower Theater on Planet Bluegrass. That structure collapsed in 1997 under the weight of a heavy spring snow. Nine and a half years later, we are revitalizing that tradition of smaller concerts on Planet Bluegrass with one of our favorite performers, Darrell Scott, Sunday night, November 5. We feel warmer already.
This show is being presented in conjunction with Lyons' non-profit High Street Concerts. Tickets are $15 advance / $18 door. Available from www.highstreetconcerts.com, The Stone Cup in Lyons (303-823-2345), and Bart's CD Cellar in Boulder (303-447-8150).
