Celtic Mabon Concert this Saturday in Lyons [ Wildflower image ]

Seamus Egan ProjectEleven years to the day since the final Festival of the Mabon, this Saturday (September 23) we bring our 10th Annual Mabon Celebration back to its Celtic roots -- with camping, food & drink, afternoon pickin', and an evening of Irish virtuosity led by legendary musician and bandleader Séamus Egan...

One of the most influential musicians in traditional Irish music, Séamus won a breathtaking 4 All-Ireland Championships on 4 different instruments by the age of 14! With his groundbreaking solo work for Shanachie Records and his founding of Solas ("Irish-America's most influential band" and 2004 Festival of the Mabon headliners!), Seamus has inspired generations of musicians and helped define the sound of Irish music today.

Take Down the DoorFor this special Mabon Concert, Séamus will be joined by all-star friends -- Solas vocalist Moira Smiley, guitarist Kyle Sanna, and Tristan Clarridge (pioneering cellist for Crooked Still and 5-time US Grand National Fiddle Champion!) -- to dig into his immense and influential catalog of music.

Colorado's own Take Down the Door opens the Wildflower Pavilion at 8pm. Inspired by the Irish tradition of taking the doors off the hinges when it was time for a party, the band brings together some of Colorado most acclaimed Celtic musicians: fiddler Jessie Burns toured for 6 years and recorded three #1 world albums with Celtic supergroup Gaelic Storm; singer Beth Leachman Gadbaw made her mark as singer for acclaimed trad group Siucra; the music of fiddler Adam Agee and guitarist Jon Sousa has been called "sincere and from the heart" by legendary Irish fiddler Martin Hayes. (Stream their wonderful debut album!)

---For this 10th Annual Mabon Celebration, we're opening the Ranch gates at 2pm for a relaxed first day of Autumn on Planet Bluegrass. Bring your instruments for pickin' (or Irish sessions) along the river. Starting at 3pm, we'll be serving food (Irish Shepherd's Pie, vegan and gluten-free soups, salad, and salty sweet and cocoa Nicecream Sammies) and hearty drink (including Guinness and New Belgium beers, wine, hot drinks). Maybe we'll even grlimpse a few stray bagpipers wandering above the cliffs!

The Wildflower Pavilion doors open at 7pm, and the concert starts at 8pm -- with a bonfire to follow. Tickets and camping are available now (with no service fees, of course) at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.
