Gipsy Moon's CD release party this Friday night in the Wildflower... [ Wildflower image ]

Gipsy MoonThis Friday night (April 21) we welcome bohemian gypsy-folk quintet Gipsy Moon to the Wildflower Pavilion in Lyons to celebrate the release of their new CD with special guests Foxfeather.

"Gipsy Moon is an acoustic love cannon blasting a new generation's invitation to the dance of life" (Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon). Though rooted in progressive bluegrass (with mandolin & banjo grooving alongside cello, percussion, and sweet vocals) Gipsy Moon began to explore a rootsy world sound several years ago. This new CD, Songs of Olde, pushes these influences even further, with the band reimagining old-world traditionals -- adapting Russian folk tunes, American murder ballads, Middle Eastern love songs, and Irish instrumentals for modern times. Veterans of both the Wildflower Pavilion and Kinfolk Celebration stages, this CD release celebration will also be Gipsy Moon's first headlining show on the Planet.

FoxfeatherSultry alt-Americana quintet Foxfeather takes the stage right at 8pm. Rooster Magazine calls them "an emotional ride into the first of folk with low-hanging country branches slapping you in the face without apology." Led by Carly Ricks Smith's captivating vocals -- "somewhere between the folky soprano of a young Joni Mitchell and the jazz-heavy range of Lake Street Dive's Rachael Price" (The Marquee) -- Foxfeather released their debut full-length last fall. We loved it so much, we featured them in the Wildflower during last summer's Folks Festival.

Tickets for this Friday night -- and next Friday's season finale with singer-songwriters Joe Pug and Anais Mitchell -- are on sale now (with no service fees, of course) at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.
