We close our Spring concert series this weekend with a final pair of shows: Danny Shafer's CD release celebration on Friday night (April 26), followed by a special Saturday evening (April 27) with 16-time IBMA instrumentalists of the year Rob Ickes and Jim Hurst.
We can't wait to share this final Spring weekend of music with you in Lyons -- just 20 minutes north of Boulder. We'll light the bonfire at 7pm and begin serving drinks at the Wildflower bar (New Belgium Beer, wine, and hot drinks). Music starts each night at 8pm, with a favorite from last year's RockyGrass band contest, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, opening the night on Friday. Rally your Festivarian family, this will be our last gathering on Planet Bluegrass before we all meet again in Telluride!
For nearly 2 decades Danny Shafer has been one of the Front Range's most beloved songwriters -- whether leading his bands the Unknown Americans or The 21st Century, or performing solo (which has brought him to Folks Fest both on the main stage and as a frequent in-the-round performer). This Friday night, Danny celebrates the hometown release of his 4th solo album Wherever You Are, which has already been praised by Marquee and by the Daily Camera who said his tunes "seem as if they fit just right together, like elements in a molecule."
Then Saturday evening we cap our Spring season with an evening of jaw-dropping virtuosity from 2 of the most acclaimed artists in bluegrass: dobro master Rob Ickes and guitarist Jim Hurst. Grammy winning studio musicians, members of acclaimed bands (Blue Highway, Claire Lynch Band), and past headliners at RockyGrass and instructors at the RockyGrass Academy, together they'll bring their unique creativity and stunning musical chops to bluegrass classics, jazz standards, and even funky vocal covers.
Find out why 5280 Magazine just named this pair of shows among their "Best Bets" for the weekend. Tickets are still available (with no service fees, of course) for both nights at shop.bluegrass.com, 800-624-2422, or in-person at The Stone Cup in Lyons.
