The father of bluegrass music, Bill Monroe, would have turned 100 on September 13. To celebrate this historic milestone, we've invited many of Colorado's finest traditional bluegrass bands to celebrate Bill Monroe this Friday, September 9.
The all-star lineup includes Long Road Home (2006 RockyGrass band contest winners), Blue Canyon Boys (2008 Telluride band contest winners), Pete & Joan Wernick, Mountain Holler, The Stanleytones, and The Jaspers. Many of Colorado's most respected bluegrass musicians will be on-hand, including 2-time Grammy winning bassist (and 12-year member of Nashville Bluegrass Band) Gene Libbea, founding member of Hot Rize Pete Wernick, 5-time SPBGMA guitar player of the year Greg Blake, founding member of internationally-beloved old-time band Uncle Earl KC Groves, and several state and national instrumental champions.
In 1973 Monroe worked with the Colorado Bluegrass Music Society to found the RockyGrass festival. To honor this important early collaboration, proceeds from this very special evening will benefit CBMS's "bluegrass in the schools" outreach program.
Advance tickets ($15) are available now at shop.bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning at 7pm for $17 (cash-only).
Spend the full evening in our wonderful little town of Lyons. Enjoy one of our great restaurants (sushi, pizza, tapas, Mexican, brewpub, BBQ, and more). Play a few games of classic pinball. Then walk over to Planet Bluegrass to grab drinks at the Wildflower bar (New Belgium Beer, wine, and hot drinks). We can't wait to see you this Friday in the Wildflower Pavilion.
