This Saturday night is your first chance in many years to hear the incomparable David Grier and Mike Compton together on the Front Range; and your last chance to enjoy Planet Bluegrass in 2009.
John Hartford famously said Mike Compton knows more about Monroe-style mandolin than the Father of Bluegrass himself; the Int'l Bluegrass Music Association voted David Grier their "Guitar Player of the Year" three times. Mike has played on Planet Bluegrass stages as a member of Nashville Bluegrass Band, John Hartford Stringband, Elvis Costello & the Sugarcanes; David last wowed the RockyGrass crowd as a member of Psychograss.
If you saw these two Grammy winners together at Telluride '06, expect a performance that is even more rooted in gritty blues, with more vocals and more new material. If you've never seen them before, expect to spend the evening on the edge of your seat - relishing in Mike's left hand fluidly gliding over the strings, giddy as David's endlessly inventive solos overshadow his impossibly virtuosic technique.
Tickets are still available. As a loyal "Words from the Wildflower" subscriber (and to celebrate our final show of 2009), we'd like to offer you a special Buy One Get One Free! deal for this show. Just order a Grier & Compton ticket online - shop.bluegrass.com - before 11:59pm on Friday night and include the word "BOGO" in the "Special Instructions or Order Comments." We'll have a free ticket alongside your will-call order at the door. Tickets will be for sale at the door on Saturday, but this "buy one get one free" deal ends on Friday night.
As always, we'll have the bonfire lit and the indoor bar open at 7pm. Plan to arrive early to spend some time with your fellow festivarians around the bonfire. David Grier & Mike Compton take the stage at 8pm for 2 full sets, immersing the intimate Wildflower Pavilion in two of the greatest tones in acoustic music. We can't wait to share this special evening of music with you - our final concert of 2009.
