Planet Bluegrass becomes a Certified B Corp

We are proud to announce that as of December 2015, Planet Bluegrass has become a Certified B Corporation!

Planet Bluegrass has a long history (we'll produce our 100th festival in 2016) of pursuing the most environmentally friendly and socially conscious business practices in the music festival industry; in some cases pioneering new ways events can embrace sustainable solutions.

Through integrating simple ideas like providing free filtered water to Festivarians, incentivizing waste reduction, creating jobs for artists and musicians, and creating long-lasting relationships with festival partners, we have always demonstrated a deep commitment to our community and surroundings.

When we learned that there was a global network of thousands of other like-minded businesses, we knew there was something special going on — a revolution of conscious businesses. After completing and passing a stringent certification assessment, we are thrilled to join the ranks of so many other visionary companies across every industry.

The B Corp Movement

So what is a Certified B Corporation? Think of B Corp certification as something similar to Fair Trade certification for coffee or USDA Organic certification for milk.

There's only one major difference — while those certifications demonstrate that a company has created a good product, B Corp certification is an assessment of the entire company — from their environmental impact, to their role in the local community, to employment and governance practices.

We believe that B Corporations are part of a global movement to redefine success in business. By voluntarily meeting high standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, Certified B Corporations are distinguishing themselves by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.

How did we become certified? The nonprofit entity B Lab has developed a holistic Impact Assessment that measures a company's practices on a 200-point scale. A minimum of 80 out of 200 points is required. Every two years, we will retake the assessment and measure our improvements against our initial benchmarks — thus creating an ongoing cycle of improvement!
